In the age of social media, one of the first things people ask for when they need to create or refresh a brand is, “I need better photography!”
But what does that mean?
Before we even go into photography techniques, let’s talk about what photography is in branding
Photography helps you to answer questions in a split second.
Photography sets a mood
Photography tells a story.
Let’s talk about the questions that photography can answer…
Product Based Business
  • What do these products look like?
  • What are the features that make it unique?
  • What kinds of other people use them?
  • How big is it?
  • How do I use it?
  • What color is it?
  • How do I incorporate it into my life?
Service Based Business
  • Who are you?
  • How will I feel working with you?
  • Does your story matter to me?
  • How do I interact with you?
  • How will you help me?
  • What can I expect from your service?

BRAND STUDY

It is too easy to make this trite and literal. Let’s look at some examples of how some great (both product-based and service-based) brands are answering some important questions.

Japan.
It is known for its innovative basics. Not flashy or trendy, it excels in functional performance clothing.

From just the top 12 photos in their IG grid, here are the things I see:
  • Their clothes are for both men and women
  • They are for the playful and fun
  • They are for the active lifestyle
  • You can achieve a polished look without being overly extravagant
